Only God Can Remove Me From Power ... contd...

Unfortunately, the story doesn't end there. It gets worse.

On Friday, a UN Security Council draft resolution to freeze Mugabe's assets was vetoed by both China and Russia. Zimbabwe’s information minister described the resolution as a Western plot and has welcomed its rejection

I am a strong believer in the United Nations system. I have always held that the UN system is the only logical way to maintain a democratic and peaceful world order. That is not to say that I don't recognize its flaws.

But as the years go by, I find it incredibly hard to reconcile the words in the Preamble to the UN Charter with the state of affairs in the world today.

WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED

to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and

to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and

to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and

to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom… …

It's just hard to imagine.
